Reduced Inequalities

The inequalities in income and wealth are severe and have been widening globally. SDG 10 aims to reduce income inequality based on age, gender, disability, religion and economic or other status within the country, as well as among countries. Inequality is not only a barrier to prog- ress but also deprives people from opportunities and ulti- mately leads to the conditions of extreme poverty.

Government is committed to reduce economic inequality through various policies and programs. In this direction, numerous initiatives have been taken. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan YojanaPradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi are some such interventions.

The Goal has 10 targets to reduce the inequality mainly by regulating and monitoring the financial markets and institutions, encouraging development assistance and foreign direct investment to regions where required. A total of 11 indicators have been identified at national level to measure and monitor the progress of these targets.
